was started in 1998 by a group of citizens concerned about substandard housing.

  • Our Mission: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

  • Our Vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

  • Our Organization: Habitat for Humanity New York State and New York Habitat affiliates also share HFHI's open door policy and belief that everyone deserves a decent place to live regardless of religion, race, age, gender, political views, or any other distinction that too often divides people. This means that Habitat welcomes all volunteers and supporters, and will serve all those in need regardless of their background.

Habitat also does not proselytize or offer help on the expressed or implicit condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion.

What we do...

The ultimate goal of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate poverty housing from the face of the earth by building safe, decent, affordable housing. Habitat is not a giveaway program. It is a partnership in which those who benefit from the program are involved directly in every aspect of the mission.

Close to 100% of the labor needed to build a Habitat home is performed by volunteers, including the future homeowners. They are required to complete either 200 or 300 hours of "sweat equity" (depending on whether it is a one-adult or two-adult household) as part of their partnering with Habitat to purchase a home.

There are currently fifteen (15) Habitat homes in Livingston County:

  • Two in Avon
  • One in Caledonia
  • One in Groveland
  • One in Hunt
  • One in Livonia
  • Two in Piffard
  • Two in Mt. Morris
  • Five in Dansville
